For this article, we dive into the reasons why some students chose their majors and what they envision for their futures. Everyone has their own reasons for being in college. The “why” for most students will be just for a better future for themselves. Financial stability and doing what means most to them in life are the driving features of college students.

What made you choose your major? What is your passion in life?

My major is psychology and my passion in life is to help others. The thought of being able to guide others is what truly drives me in life.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

I see myself working as, or towards, a therapist or school counselor. Either having my own place of work or working through another company would be ideal but I wouldn’t mind working for a school. I have no preference with who I work with, but as long as I get to help those in need then I am happy.

What made you choose your major? What is your passion in life?

The reason I chose to major in Business Administration and Accounting is because I would like to operate my own business one day. I love decorating and being creative, so I would like to own a party supply store if I had to be honest. But maybe I will just end up doing people’s taxes.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Ten years from now I see myself owning a farm, a whole bunch of cars, dogs everywhere and a stable, well paying job, and overall living a happy life by traveling.

Student #3

What made you choose to be a STEM major? What is your passion in life?

I chose to be a STEM major because I’ve always been passionate about medicine, and I know the best route is biology. I want to be a Physician’s assistant, and biology is a required course for that program. I also have always loved science.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

I hope to be a PA, but if that does not happen I at least hope to have my bachelor’s degree. Working as a genetic counselor or an LVN, ideally, a PA because that is my end goal, and I also see myself with a little family

Student #4

What made you choose your major? What is your passion?

I chose education as my major because my teachers had a huge impact in my life. I saw my teachers more than I saw my parents throughout my childhood and they kind of shaped my childhood and ultimately into the person I am today. My passion in life is being able to recreate that for another kid.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Ten years from now I see myself as an elementary school teacher living in Bakersfield, California. As far as my personal life, I see myself married to my girlfriend and us experiencing the joy of being a family.

Student #5

What made you choose to be a STEM major? What is your passion in life?

My strive to gain a better financial future for myself and my family became the driving force to be a STEM major. To pay back what my parents have suffered throughout my siblings and I’s upbringing.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

I see my passion of working as an electrical engineer at a company I admire like Amazon that would help to complete my lifelong goal of paying back my family for their hard work ten years from now.

In conclusion, we have seen several students’ “whys” for being in college. The insight of these students are what most college students go through every day of their lives. Everyday I wonder what my future will look like. College can be a terrifying experience, but it is nice to know that I am not alone in what my goals are and what drives me to succeed.
