Alex Rockey, PhD
Faculty, Academic Technology Department, Bakersfield College
Hi everyone! I’m an instructional technologist instructor at Bakersfield College. Prior to joining the Renegade team, I worked as an instructional design consultant at CSU-Bakersfield and a graduate student researcher in instructional design at UC Davis. I graduated from UC Davis in June 2020 with a PhD in Education. My research has focused on feedback in online STEM courses. In this work, I have found that some typically conceived limitations of online courses (e.g., lack of interaction) can be reimagined as benefits with the strategic use of technology. More broadly, my interests include humanizing online education, accessibility, and mobile learning. As an educator with K-16 teaching experience, I have taught both high school English and Puente as well as first-year writing at the college level. I am passionate about the potential of online education to improve student access to high-quality educational opportunities.
As the editor-in-chief of the BC Academic Technology blog, I post articles Tuesdays and Thursdays during the semester. All articles are written by me unless indicated otherwise:) Tuesdays feature the instructor perspective while Thursdays highlight student voices.
